Our Philanthropy

Through the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation, we are able to support the following national causes: Glenmary Home Missioners, The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built, and Camp Friendship.

Below are philanthropies that we contribute to as the Gamma Alpha chapter.

Sapphire Man

Sapphire Man is our annual male beauty pageant and Chinese auction that is held in the Fall in order to raise money for Camp Friendship and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Erie. It is a two week process of sign-ups, penny wars, and a canned food drive in preparation to the competition.

THON

The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is a year-long fundraising and awareness campaign for the fight against pediatric cancer. This effort engages more than 15,000 students across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania inhopes of finding a cure.

The year culminates with a 46 hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon known as THON Weekend. This past Spring, we were honored to have our very own sister, Emily Bailey danced for the kids down at University Park.

Cardboard City

Cardboard City is held over a time of 24 hours. We collect cardboard up to the day and build ourselves a home. Sisters stay in the home and collect donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank and raise awareness for Homeless & Helplessness Week at Behrend.

Adopt-A-Highway

Volunteers beautify roadsides two miles at a time. Our sisters get together twice a year to clean our highway.

Relay for Life

Relay for Life is a 12-hour walk to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Theta Phi Alpha leads a team every Spring and hosts a table for fundraising during the event as well.

Tabling

Our tabling includes ribbon sales for multiple organizations. In October, we spend two weeks selling bracelets, ribbons, and pins for breast cancer awareness. We have also done ribbon sales for the Children's Hospital and Erie Special Olympics.

Pie-a-Theta Phi

Pie-a-Theta Phi began as a way to support the Emily Jancart (an Alumna's sister) Scholarship Foundation. The funds are used to honor Emily's memory every year and donations are given to Old Lady of Sacred Heart School in Coraopolis, PA .
